JOB Summary: Reporting to the Head of Global Product Development, this critical position enables the execution of growth strategy. In this position, the formulation chemist will develop and evaluate new end-use products according to market and customer needs, using specialized formulation technology and processes. The formulation chemist will work closely with other members of the formulations team supporting Global Product Development initiatives.

The formulation chemist will also conduct specialized physiochemical testing on candidate formulations and competitive products to determine how well formulations will perform under actual use conditions, conduct or outsource required regulatory studies, assist in manufacturing scale up and production, and trouble-shoot field performance problems. Formulation chemists also ensure that intellectual property is developed and freedom to operate is ensured for new formulations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: College degree required; a Master’s of Science or Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or materials science preferred. An advanced degree is not required for individuals with adequate experience. Knowledge of agricultural formulations, their use, physical testing requirements and new technologies amounting to at least 5 year’s experience in the development of agricultural formulations is essential to perform this job.

Experience with successfully developing new formulations and products are necessary, and a working knowledge of global regulatory requirements and protocols for physical testing of new formulations is a plus. Responsibilities The primary measure of the success in this role will be the achievement of annual sales targets set by Executive and Business management. 

 

The BD professional will conduct a minimum of twenty face-to-face client visits/meetings and/or teleconferences per month, document the substance of these meetings and develop proper follow-up and action plans to further the opportunity.  The emphasis will be to engage existing and prospective clients through face-to-face interactions with a heightened emphasis on new, prospective client engagement.  Teleconferences will be used as a means to qualify opportunities, introduce operational subject experts, probe for potential synergies and engage in a consultative selling approach. Additionally these meetings provide follow-ups on existing or pending projects, and interface with remote/virtual clients where face-to-face interactions are limited.  The ultimate goal of these client interactions is to drive incremental sales and to maintain existing business, especially in the face of enhanced competition.  .

Sr. Biologist Crop Protection Scientist


The successful candidate will be responsible for focusing biological efforts on all aspects of crop protection products evaluations for crop and non-crop opportunities.  To aid in determining and expanding commercial potential of lead compounds, the individual will utilize existing bio-assays, and develop and integrate new assays, to extensively characterize crop protection chemistry against a broad range of weeds within key crop/non-crop segments. Responsibilities:
  • Work safely within a team environment in support of crop protection products concept evaluations and development.
  • Champion the evaluation of  crop protection products and technologies towards the development, optimization and expansion of crop and specialty use concepts and products.
  • Test  crop protection products and concepts in a range of bioassays to characterize activity, residuality, efficacy, and commercial utility.
  • Work independently and within a small team, requiring a minimum of supervision.
  • Create appropriate plans to test experimental hypotheses by identification, planning and organization of resources, including plants, greenhouse space and time requirements.

  • Transfer information of herbicide development findings throughout the organization.
  • Maintain complete understanding of all bioassays available for testing including timing, material requirements, assay evaluation, statistical analysis, etc.
  • Develop technical leadership by publishing and presenting appropriate information at scientific meetings, and/or trade organizations.

 

Required Education:

PhD in Weed Science, Agronomy, or related applied life science with at least 3 years’ experience, or M.S. in Weed Science, Agronomy, or related applied life science and at least 6 years’ experience in an applied herbicide or related applied pesticide academic or industrial R&D program. 

 

Qualifications:
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial herbicides and a strategic understanding of agricultural chemical markets.
  • Understanding of economic, competitive, and practical use factors affecting opportunities in various crop protection markets.  Working knowledge of current and development crop protection products.

Western Crop Research Manager

Do you have a Master’s or PhD in Agronomy or Horticulture  with at least 5 years’ experience in Ag or Horticulture Field Research ? Do you have a PCA or CCA? Do you have a valid CA Driver’s License with a clean driving record? General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Western Crop Research Manager is a pivotal role responsible for the design, implementation, and final reporting of statewide research trials and demonstration plots; this includes collecting and prioritizing trial ideas and requests across various departments.  This role will provide technical support and information to the Branded Products team, Sales team, and Managers for the purpose of providing Crop Protection Chemicals (CPC), and Plant Nutritional based solutions.  The Western Crop Research Manager is also responsible for communicating overall findings and results with field staff, management, and supplier Technical Service staff.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

  • Deep understanding of production agriculture field practices, industry crops, and technologies
  • Strong background in CPC and adjuvants/surfactants
  • Experience and training with data capture/entry, specifically with ARM
  • Strong ability to manage and optimize processes and programs
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation and communication skills
  • Master’s degree or higher in Crop Production discipline such as entomology, plant pathology, weed science, or plant physiology required. PhD preferred
  • State issued Pesticide Applicators License plus appropriate CCA and/or PCA License required

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:

  • Prioritize and plan CPC, adjuvant, value added nutrition, and other trials. Establish protocols, goals, and metrics based on project needs.
  • Support and lead the planning and implementation of crop meetings, technical meetings, branch updates, and field days
  • Collaborate with Branded Product Specialists to provide technical product training and sales support to branches and PCAs for Adjuvants and CPC
  • Establish working relationship with local Technical Service and Product Development representatives.
  • Prepare and present research and demonstration trial data for peer group review
  • Respond to PCA and customer needs via in field grower contacts
  • Optimize and oversee Regional Research team member performance by counseling, coaching, and disciplining employees
